The
Toronto Rehabilitation Institute's University Centre will be
transformed into a contemporary facility with purpose-built
environments for patient care, education and research. This planned
transformation will involve both demolition and new construction.
Through seamless design integration, a new state-of-the-art tower will
successfully interconnect to the existing hospital building and house
inpatient units, outpatient clinics and therapy areas.
Highlights of the redevelopment project
include:
Patient Care: A
new 12-storey tower building will allow for increased outpatient
capacity, more spacious and private inpatient rooms, therapy spaces and
facilities that are more conducive to rehabilitation and recovery.
Research: New
research laboratories and testing facilities resulting in 54,400 square
feet dedicated to house Toronto Rehab's growing research
program.
Education: Dedicated
education space to accommodate the increasing number of students who
come to Toronto Rehab to complete their clinical training.
PRISM
is providing a wide-range of project management services including
project budget and schedule, design development, contract document
preparation, tender evaluation, contract award, commissioning,
occupancy, cost control, value engineering and risk management.
Key elements in the planning and execution of this project will be to minimize disruption of services during the redevelopment phase, provide for planning flexibility, avoid problems and costs associated with the retention of older buildings, assemble a procurement model best suited to manage project risks, and deliver the project on-time and on-budget.
